Fire Investigator – Staff Expert

An experienced fire and explosion investigator, has investigated a wide range of incidents: simple dryer fires to $100 million losses.  He has investigated structure, vehicle, and industrial fires and explosions from Miami Beach to the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.

Richard serves on several fire investigations related codes & standards committees.  He is a member of the NFPA 1033 committee on fire investigator qualifications, a member of the ASTM 05 committee on fire testing standards, and a member of the ABYC subcommittee on marine 3-phase power systems.

Richard J. Meier has been a staff expert with John A. Kennedy and Associates, Inc. since October, 2011. He currently holds a number of national and international professional certifications including: Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and Certified Fire Investigation Instructor. Richard completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1995.

Prior to his start with John A. Kennedy and Associates, Inc., Rich  spent 24 years as a mechanical and manufacturing engineer designing and building a diverse range of products and equipment. During this time, he gained broad and diverse knowledge in plastics, metals, mechanical and electrical systems, hydraulic and fuel systems, marine, automotive and industrial systems.

With 1000’s of fire & explosion investigations, during his more than 50-year career, Pat has an unrivaled depth of experience.   He skillfully uses that experience to build strong, scientific cases for his clients.

His text, Explosion Investigation and Analysis, was the first comprehensive text to specifically address the investigation of fires & explosions from perspective of an Expert Witness.

Patrick serves on several prominent fire investigations related codes and standards committees of both the ASTM and the NFPA.  He is a charter principal member of the NFPA Technical Committees on Fire Investigations (921) and principal member the NFPA Technical Committee on Fire Investigator Professional Qualifications (1033).

About  Pat

Pat Kennedy is the senior-most, active fire analyst, with more years of experience that any other active fire investigation professional. He holds three Bachelor of Science degrees including a Summa Cum Laude degree in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati.      

He is the proud father of of three daughters, all of  whom,  work in the fire investigation field.

An experienced fire and explosion investigator, has investigated a wide range of incidents in the US and Caribbean,  A savvy codes expert, Kathryn is particularly adept at locating all applicable codes and standards related to fire and explosion incidents.

Acutely interested in advancing the education of fire & explosion investigators, Kathryn has been integral in the development of NAFI’s international training curricula and is currently overseeing a review of their CFEI program.
